General Project
Information:
YourMovieProject concerns itself with the human side of
medicine and is headed by neurologist and medical researcher
Richard G. Pellegrino. M.D.,Ph.D. The mission of the project is
to provide an effective media voice for patients through
entertainment. Patients with chronic illnesses have been forced
to develop extraordinary solutions to extraordinary challenges.
We believe that these people have something to teach all of us.
In particular, we want to develop medical thrillers (books and
movies) as well as documentaries that speak to three audiences:
 |
Patients with chronic illness. If you
take 100 people with any chronic illness, 20% will be
doing fine and will find ways to live full lives, 20%
will not come out of their room and the rest will be
somewhere in the middle. We want to use entertainment
and storytelling to allow the first 20% to talk to the
last 80%. |
 |
Friends and families of people with chronic
illness. It is difficult to make your loved ones
understand what you are going through without sounding
like you're bellyaching. However, entertaining books,
movies and documentaries can start a conversation
about what life is like in a painless way. Even your
17 year old will agree to sit down and watch a medical
thriller, and if the supporting characters with a
particular illness are properly crafted, he can learn
something about life with that disease. |
 |
The general public.
How patients are
perceived and how they perceive themselves has a great
deal to do with their health and sense of well-being
and so it is important the public have an accurate
understanding of the human side of chronic illness.

YourMovieProject uses a unique process called Trentology
™, or
translational entertainment technology, to "translate" the
experiences of patients with chronic illnesses into characters
that fit into the plots of entertaining medical thrillers. The
process is simple. This website, YourMovieProject.com, collects
stories from patients about their life with various chronic
diseases and disabilities, and uses these true stories to
develop accurate composite characters with the illness. These
characters are then woven into the plots of commercially viable
medical thrillers. These characters must seamlessly integrate
into the story line and must be realistic (hence the
communication with people who actually live with these
conditions) so that our patients can emotionally bond with them.
Through their behavior in the story, we hope to illustrate
unique solutions to common problems. In this way, we create a
common experience for large groups of people and illustrate
effective life strategies through these role models. The first
project, Point Source, concerns multiple sclerosis, and
the book will be available in early May, 2004. The documentary
on MS begins shooting in mid March, 2004. Future projects will
touch on other conditions.
